Intro to Relief Sculpture CCBC

Are you interested in taking an art class for a fun new rec/leisure activity or to build some new skills? Consider taking my Intro to Relief Sculpture class at CCBC this spring!  

Intro to Relief Sculpture
Learn the foundations of relief sculpture and walk away with your own finished work of art to hang at home! You will learn the different types of relief sculpture and see examples from throughout art history, including some contemporary applications of the method being used by artists today. Students will bring their own Exacto Knife, box cutter, and craft glue. Additional materials will be discussed at first session. Total Cost: $86 (Tuition: $0 Fees: $86)

I'm beyond jazzed to be part of this event. Nick Cave has been a major source of inspiration to my growth as an artist over the years and to soon be introducing him on stage is an unbelievable honor!

Making Progress

Armature in the Making

This is the first armature in the works for the new sculpture series I'm playing with. Made of high-density foam and dowel rods with some 2x4's to weight the bottom. There are a few more sections to go to complete the arched form (I have to wait for the glue to set to continue building) and all of it will be wrapped in chicken wire to complete the under-structure...nothing fancy here! This will then be wrapped in quilt batting, upholstery foam, and fabric before the final top "coat" will be added.

I'm still here!

I know I haven't posted in quite some time...It has been a very busy past year! I've definitely kept busy with all of the curatorial and public programming work at Pinebox, as well as developing a micro-business art program for Itineris at the same time. I'm happy to report however that I spent the last couple months setting up a brand new personal studio and have now begun experimenting with a new series. I'm branching away from the wearable work for the time being, however the sculptures I am creating are still very much plush and textile based. Here are a few sketches from the studio...more details to come as the project unfolds. Stay tuned!

FlimFlams are Underway...

Back to Work!

It was a busy summer (into fall) of multiple shows, setting up a new studio, and selling my house, but I finally got back to work on the new series I'm calling "Meet the Flimflams!" This goofy pastiche is of classic 1950's family sitcoms and is also inspired by more contemporary shows such as PeeWee's Play House and Food Party. I'm just beginning my playful experimentations with this so stay tuned!
